Which Animals Are Endangered

which animals are endangered
If you see an Endangered human eating an endangered animal which was eating an endangered plant, what do you do?

Humans aren’t endangered. Unless you mean a starving human? Also I don’t think that the endangered animal would be trying to eat while being eaten; he would be more concerned with not being eaten.

Here are heartwarming, entertaining and educational experiences of Israeli zoologist, Avinoam Lourie, told with the typical warmth, wit, and wisdom for which he is known. A History Of World Agriculture

A History Of World Agriculture

$86.85

Only once we understand the long history of human efforts to draw sustenance from the land can we grasp the nature of the crisis that faces humankind today, as hundreds of millions of people are faced with famine or flight from the land. From Neolithic times through the earliest civilizations of the ancient near East, in savannahs, river valleys and the terraces created by the Incas in the Andean mountains, an increasing range of agricultural techniques have developed in response to very different conditions. These developments are recounted in this book, with detailed attention to the ways in which plants, animals, soil, climate, and society have interacted. Mazoyer and Roudart’s A History of World Agriculture is a path-breaking and panoramic work, beginning with the emergence of agriculture after thousands of years in which human societies had depended on hunting and gathering, showing how agricultural techniques developed in the different regions of the world, and how this extraordinary wealth of knowledge, tradition and natural variety is endangered today by global capitalism, as it forces the unequal agrarian heritages of the world to conform to the norms of profit. During the twentieth century, mechanization, motorization and specialization have brought to a halt the pattern of cultural and environmental responses that characterized the global history of agriculture until then. Today a small number of corporations have the capacity to impose the farming methods on the planet that they find most profitable. Mazoyer and Roudart propose an alternative global strategy that can safeguard the economies of the poor countries, reinvigorate the global economy, and create a livable futurefor humankind.

 A Woodland Counting Book

A Woodland Counting Book

$17.95

Towering oak and hickory woodlands once fringed the tallgrass prairie of the Midwest. In a wondrous mixture of plant and animal life, big mammals like black bears and cougars thrived alongside gray foxes and ovenbirds. But as more people arrived, the woodlands, like the tallgrass prairie, were cleared with amazing speed. Now only small portions of this special habitat remain, and many of its animals and plants are endangered or extinct. Despite the great loss, many people are working to restore and enlarge what remains so that woodlands can continue to support a rich wildlife community. And so we can all enjoy a walk in the woods. A Woodland Counting Book helps children learn about the woodland family. From one splendid white oak to fifty busy carpenter ants, illustrator Claudia McGehee counts the wonders of the woodlands in this beautifully illustrated companion to her previous children’s book, A Tallgrass Prairie Alphabet. As she follows spring to summer to fall to winter, returning at the book’s end to springtime in “one woodland community,” McGehee introduces more than twenty species of plants and animals. From the white oaks that tower overhead to shelter the woodland citizens to the delicate showy lady’s-slipper orchid and from the barred owls with distinctive hoots and calls to tiny evening bats which roost in hollow trees, we meet a wild world of woodland life. We find luna moths and serviceberries, shagbark hickories, blue spotted salamanders, wild turkeys, red squirrels, orchard orioles, and a host of other familiar and not-so-familiar plants and animals. A section of woodland notes gives common and scientific names of and interesting information about all featured species. These vibrantly colored scratchboard illustrations reveal the beauty of our woodland communities, guiding nature lovers and children of all ages through a much-loved landscape.

Animals Bred for Albinism on a Large Scale: Ferret

$9.71

Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: The ferret is a domestic mammal of the type Mustela putorius furo. Ferrets are sexually dimorphic predators with males being substantially larger than females. They typically have brown, black, white, or mixed fur, have an average length of 20 inches (51 cm) including a 5 inch (13 cm) tail, weigh about , and have a natural lifespan of 7 to 10 years. Several other small, elongated carnivorous mammals belonging to the family Mustelidae (weasels) also have the word ferret in their common names, including an endangered species, the Black-footed Ferret. The ferret is a very close relative of the polecat, but it is as yet unclear whether it is a domesticated form of the European Polecat, the Steppe Polecat, or some hybrid of the two. The history of the ferret’s domestication is uncertain, like that of most other domestic animals, but it is likely that ferrets have been domesticated for at least 2,500 years. They are still used for hunting rabbits in some parts of the world today, but increasingly they are being kept simply as pets. Being so closely related to polecats, ferrets are quite easily able to hybridize with them, and this has occasionally resulted in feral colonies of ferret polecat hybrids that have been perceived to have caused damage to native fauna, perhaps most notably in New Zealand. As a result, some parts of the world have imposed restrictions on the keeping of ferrets. As described by the Oaklands Zoo, Ferrets are crepuscular, which means they spend 1418 hours a day asleep and are most active around the hours of dawn and dusk. Unlike their polecat ancestors, which are solitary animals, ferrets will live happily in social groups. They are territorial, like to burrow and prefer to sleep in an enclosed area. Like many other carnivore… More:

Animals at the Edge: Saving the World’s Rarest Creatures

$19.95

The EDGE (Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered) of Existence program is a global conservation initiative aimed at saving rare species from extinction. This eye-opening book shows some of the important results of the group’s work. Readers accompany real scientists on exciting scientific expeditions from the heights of the Cyclops Mountains in faraway West Papua, to the depths of the Yangtze River in China, to the forests of Haiti in the Caribbean, and the vast stretches of the Gobi Desert. Jonathan and Marilyn Baillie’s lively narratives and stunning photographs introduce such special creatures as the bumblebee bat, so small it can fit on a fingertip; the Bactrian camel, capable of surviving the harshest desert conditions; and the slender loris, a nocturnal beast hunted for its mythical magic powers. There is also a sense of urgency here: these and the eight other animals profiled are evolutionarily unique, which means that if they don’t survive there will be nothing similar left on Earth and our global biodiversity will be weakened forever.

 Anti-hunting

Anti-hunting

$59

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Anti-hunting is a term which is (often informally) used to identify or describe persons or groups, generally in a political context, who stand in opposition to hunting. It is also used to describe efforts to prevent hunting through legislation and other means which can include acts of civil disobedience such as hunt sabotage. Anti-hunting laws such as the English Hunting Act 2004 are generally distinguishable from conservation legislation such as the American Marine Mammal Protection Act by whether they seek to reduce or prevent hunting for perceived cruelty related reasons or to regulate hunting for conservation, although the boundaries of distinction are sometimes blurred in specific laws, for example when endangered animals are hunted.

Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Daphnandra johnsonii, the Illawarra Socketwood is a rare rainforest tree in the Illawarra district of eastern Australia. Most of the 41 sites are under immediate threat from clearing for agriculture, urban expansion, feral animals, weeds, inappropriate use of fire and herbicide, quarrying, and road construction. Only two small populations are conserved in the reserve system. The biggest and healthiest populations are on private property. Usually occurring at less than 150 metres above sea level, on volcanic soils in sub tropical rainforest. Occasionally up to 350 metres above sea level. Often by creeks, or dry rocky scree slopes. Also in disturbed forest and rainforest margins. Distributed from Berry, New South Wales in the south to Scarborough, New South Wales in the northern Illawarra (34° S). A member of the ancient Gondwana family Atherospermataceae, the Illawarra Socketwood is endangered by extinction. Formerly considered the southernmost population of Daphnandra micrantha, the Australian Socketwood. Recently it has been recognised as a separate species. The type specimen collected in the Illawarra district by L.A.S. Johnson, after whom the species was named, by Richard Schodde. The generic name Daphnandra refers to a similarity of the anthers of the Bay Laurel. Greek daphne refers to the Bay Laurel, and andros from the Greek for man. The term “socketwood” is from the related species Daphnandra apatela. A feature of which is where larger branchlets meet the main trunk. This joining resembles a “ball and socket” type joint. A small to medium sized tree. Growing to around 20 metres tall and a stem diameter of 30 cm, with a broad and shady crown. The trunk is beige in colour, cylindrical with little buttressing. Sometimes seen with coppic… More:

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Bonny Doon Ecological Reserve is a nature preserve of 552 acres in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California, United States. The reserve protects several rare and endangered plant and animal species within an area known as the Santa Cruz sandhills, an ancient seabed containing fossilized marine animals. The land was purchased in 1989 by The Nature Conservancy which deeded the property to the state, and is now managed by the California Department of Fish and Game. The Santa Cruz Mountains are the only known location of the Zayante soil derived from the Santa Margarita geologic formation, that occur in three clusters in Santa Cruz County. The Bonny Doon reserve protects species adapted to a type of soil known as Zayante, a Miocene-aged marine sediment and sandstone soil from an ancient sea that encompassed California’s Central Valley.
